USB Flash Drive

A USB flash drive consists of a NAND-type flash memory data storage device integrated with a USB (universal serial bus) interface. USB flash drives are typically removable and rewritable, much shorter than a floppy disk (1 to 4 inches or 2.5 to 10 cm), and weigh less than 2 ounces (60 g). Storage capacities typically range from 64 MB to 64 GB[1] with steady improvements in size and price per gigabyte. Some allow 1 million write or erase cycles[2][3] and have 10-year data retention,[4] connected by USB 1.1 or USB 2.0. USB Memory card readers are also available, whereby rather than being built-in, the memory is a removable flash memory card housed in what is otherwise a regular USB flash drive, as described below.

USB flash drives offer potential advantages over other portable storage devices, particularly the floppy disk. They have a more compact shape, operate faster, hold much more data, have a more durable design, and operate more reliably due to their lack of moving parts. Additionally, it has become increasingly common for computers to ship without floppy disk drives. USB ports, on the other hand, appear on almost every current mainstream PC and laptop. These types of drives use the USB mass storage standard, supported natively by modern operating systems such as Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and other Unix-like systems. USB drives with USB 2.0 support can also operate faster than an optical disc drive, while storing a larger amount of data in a much smaller space.

Nothing actually moves in a flash drive: the term drive persists because computers read and write flash-drive data using the same system commands as for a mechanical disk drive, with the storage appearing to the computer operating system and user interface as just another drive.[3]

A flash drive consists of a small printed circuit board protected inside a plastic, metal, or rubberised case, robust enough for carrying with no additional protection — in a pocket or on a key chain, for example. The USB connector is protected by a removable cap or by retracting into the body of the drive, although it is not liable to be damaged if exposed. Most flash drives use a standard type-A USB connection allowing plugging into a port on a personal computer.

To access the drive it must be connected to a USB port, which powers the drive and allows it to send and receive data. Some flash drives, especially high-speed drives, may require more power than the limited amount provided by a bus-powered USB hub, such as those built into some computer keyboards or monitors. These drives will not work properly unless plugged directly into a host controller (i.e., the ports found on the computer itself) or a self-powered hub.

Information Technology Skill ( ICT )

An Information System (IS) is hardware, software, data, people and procedures that worked together to produce quality information. The system development cycle is a set of activities used to build an information system. Most system development cycles contain five phases:planning, analysis, design,
implementation and operation,support and security.

System development should follow three general guidelines:

  • Arrange activities into phases
  • Involves the users, which includes anyone for whom a system is being built
  • Develop standards, which are sets of rules and procedures a company expect employees to accept and follow.
A system analyst is responsible for designing and developing an information system.

FrIeNdS & Me

Sunday, September 14, 2008

Today is most momentous day in my life. My mother and my dad are proud with me. I have been accepted as a student in University Malaysia Perlis. Before this, my brother also studying here but in different course and he was took degree. In early in the morning we have our breakfast at Kuala Perlis. I do not memorize the stall name but it is in front of jetty Langkawi. To be here, it will take eight hours by a car.

Through out my life, I never go far away from my family. This is the fist time that I should leave them. When I was arrived at the registration place, there are so crowded. With a smiling at the others face I knew it. They are also joyful as same like me. Thanks to god because give me this occasion.

After I have registered, I got a key house that listed my room number and my house number. I am not taking too much time to be there because I came early. I had received a UniMAP jacket, bag, pen and a few books that including UniMAP rules, course guide book, university guide book and also two books of curiculum attendance.

First person that I knew is Lina Munira. She is my roommate. With a short hair, she was wearing a scarf. She is from Kuala Lumpur. In my house there were five rooms and three toilets. Actually it was a double-storey house. I got a room at the back and it was a first storey. Including me, there are eleven peoples in that house. They were come from various countries. Some of them are from Perak, Selangor, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Malacca. There is one of them is lived here.

When night is around, I am really missed my family.I am almost cried.I never stay at hostel.Witkout my parents, and my family here, I need to learn how to be independent.I hide my gloom from my friends.I have been thinking perhaps they are also same like me.I whispered into my heart. "Mom and Dad, I will never disappointing you".

In this Orientation week,it is memorize about all of my previous friends at Kelantan. I missed them so much.
